| Smoke and poor air quality continues in California |

You are probably aware: The fires in California rage on. A news story reported yesterday that approximately 300 fires of various size continue to burn - down from over 1000 a couple weeks ago. I've received a couple calls and emails asking how things are where I live. The picture above gives you an idea. This is a picture taken from the back of my house. What can't be seen is there are mountains in the background - when things clear-up I'll send contrasting photos. While I live about 40 miles from the nearest fire and am in no danger, the smoke is incredibly thick. Combined with near record heat this week, reports are the air quality is worse than ever recorded. It's bad. Today ends the third week of poor conditions and the expectation is next week will be the same. Nothing much to do except stay indoors or leave the area. With that said, I'm out of here :-) See you next week!

Looks rough, Jim. Glad to hear that your home is ok. I remember having to evacuate my own home during the 2004 Cedar Fires here in San Diego; at least that was during October so the temperature was somewhat cooler. I can't imagine how uncomfortable it must be with both the summer heat and all of that smoke.

Thanks Aaron! It's nothing here compared to what you lived through! Evacuating your home is a big deal...and a big threat.
The heat made things tough last week, smoke is bad enough...smoke and 107 degrees is miserable :-) As you know, it doesn't rain much in California during the summer. We haven't had any rain since May and don't expect any notable level of rain until mid-October. So, it may be a long fire season... Take Care! report abuse
